Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible

Chevrolet announced the brand's most-powerful convertible ever - the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible - will debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. When it goes on sale in late 2012, it will deliver more performance and technology than many exotic cars and ultra-luxury convertibles.
"The 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible will be one of the most powerful and most capable, convertibles available at any price," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "This is a car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drop the top - or hit the gas."

Like the coupe, the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible features a supercharged 6.2L "LSA" engine, SAE-rated at 580 horsepower (432 kW) and 556 lb.-ft. of torque (754 Nm). That's enough to exceed the output of 2+2 convertibles of many performance icons, including:

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible's power is complemented by advanced powertrain and chassis technologies designed to deliver exceptional performance on the road or track. In fact, it's the same balance of acceleration, handling and ride quality that enabled a Camaro ZL1 coupe recently to lap the Nürburgring's Nordschleife course in 7:41.27 minutes.
From Day One, the architecture for the fifth-generation Camaro was designed to accommodate a convertible model, which gives the ZL1 convertible coupe-like driving dynamics. Four strategic reinforcements enhance the already-stiff body structure to quell the cowl and steering wheel shake common in convertibles. They include:
  • A tower-to-tower brace under the hood
  • A transmission support reinforcement brace
  • Underbody tunnel brace
  • Front "X" brace and stiffer cradle as well as rear underbody "V" braces.
Additional structural reinforcements in the ZL1 convertible are designed to improve noise and vibration characteristics, while also reducing unwanted ride and body motions. They include a hydrofoamed tube in the A-pillars, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers.

The suspension of the ZL1 convertible uses the third-generation of Magnetic Ride. New, twin-wire/dual-coil dampers at all four corners enable faster response, with damping levels now adjusted up to 1,000 times per second - about one adjustment per inch of vehicle travel at 60 mph - making the system exceptionally responsive to changing driving and road conditions.
The 2013 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Convertible will also offer Performance Traction Management as standard equipment, which is exclusive to General Motors. First introduced on the Corvette ZR1, it is an advanced system that integrates magnetic ride control, launch control, traction control and electronic stability control, to enhance both launch-acceleration performance and corning.
The result is a convertible designed to preserve nearly all the acceleration, road-holding and performance capabilities of the Camaro ZL1 coupe, which goes on sale in early 2012.

Chevrolet Camaro EU Version

The new Chevrolet Camaro has returned to Europe after a decade-long absence. The new Camaro is equipped with two engine variants; a 432 hp 6.2-litre LS3 V8 engine with manual transmission produces 569 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm that makes the Chevrolet Camaro accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds for the coupe and 5.4 seconds for the convertible. The automatic transmission is coupled to 405hp 6.2 L L99 V8 engine that delivers 556 Nm at 4,300 rpm. The automatic coupe hits 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, with an additional 0.2 seconds for the convertible. The new Chevrolet Camaro has an impressive top speed of 250 km/h.

The Chevrolet Camaro European model is similar to the 2SS model offered in North America. The new model features a new FE4 suspension that was developed specially for Europe. The FE4 suspension package features re-tuned front and rear dampers, and new solid front (23 mm) and rear (24 mm) stabilizer bars.
The V-shaped nose is flanked by high-intensity discharge headlamps with glowing LED Xenon halo rings, mimicking deep-inset eyes and giving the Chevrolet Camaro a menacing look.

For the Interior, the new Chevrolet Camaro comes with contemporary details in the dials, switches, cluster and ambient lighting.
The integrated center stack design combines easy-to-reach stereo and HVAC controls into a single piece of modern electronics with oversized knobs – detailed with rubber grommets and chrome – to match the character of the nameplate.

The Chevrolet Blue Ice ambient light runs across the doors. The same blue hue characterizes the speedometer on the left and rev counter on the right, with further driver information displayed in between. Optional orange ambient lighting is available with the Inferno Orange Interior Trim.
The new Chevrolet Camaro also features an Active Fuel Management. The Active Fuel Management system on the L99 engine automatically shuts down four of the eight cylinders during light load operations, allowing for reduced fuel consumption.

The Chevrolet Camaro manual models have a combined consumption figure of 14.1 L/100 km. The automatic variants fare even better with a combine consumption of 13.1 L/100 km.
Prices for the Chevrolet Camaro coupe start at €38,900 while the convertible prices start at €43,900. The Transformers® Special Edition and 45th Anniversary package come at an additional €2,000 each including VAT.
